The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is a premier National Professional body established by Act of Parliament to develop and regulate the Profession of Company Secretaries. ICSI imparts training in Company Secretaryship by Distance Learning (by correspondence) enabling students to qualify as Company Secretaries. The Institute provides “Course Material” for all the subjects at the time of Registration. There is also provision for Optional Oral Coaching classes.
Stages to become a Company Secretary :
In addition, the student has to undergo Practical Training for about 15 months which a student may opt to start after passing the Executive Programme. The Student who would like to join the Company Secretary Course after passing the Graduation (Example: B.com) has to undergo two stages of the Company Secretaryship
There are 2 Modules in CS Executive. Module -I contains 4 subjects and Module – II contains 3 subjects.
SUBJECTS COVERED IN EXECUTIVE PROGRAMME (INTER)
Module I
CS Executive Exam Eligibility Criteria – If you have passed the entrance exam of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India [ICMAI] then you are eligible to take direct entry in Executive Programme of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).
Thus, in addition to the students having graduation degree i.e. B.A. / B. Sc. / B. Com / Graduates of any discipline (excluding Fine Arts), any applicants who have passed Common Proficiency Test (CPT) of ICAI or Foundation Examination of IC
Further, the CS Institute has also relaxed candidates who have passed in the examination conducted by any other accountancy institution in India or abroad recognised as equivalent of CA CPT by the Council of the ICSI are exempted from passing the Foundation Programme examination. Such students may directly seek registration to Executive Programme stage of CS Course.

The minimum eligibility required for the Foundation course for Company Secretary is 10+2 or an equivalent examination in any stream except Fine Arts. Candidate who has enrolled for the 10+2 examination can also apply with the proof of passing the examination within 6 months.
